CBN Machining a Brake Disc

0:11 clip · shop-floor footage · Huamin Tools

Brake discs are high-volume parts, and the friction face is where the cut matters. This clip shows a PCBN insert turning a cast iron brake disc face.

What the clip shows

  • Brake disc friction face under a PCBN insert
  • Cast iron workpiece, continuous facing pass
  • Surface left ready for the finishing operation

Why this insert suits the cut

Cast iron brake discs are abrasive and the cut is interrupted at the ventilation slots on vented discs. PCBN holds an edge through that interruption better than coated carbide on a production cycle.

Where this part is used

Every vehicle has at least two discs, and the aftermarket keeps the volume high. Automotive tier suppliers run these parts on automated lines where insert changes have to be predictable.

What to send with an inquiry

  • Disc material and hardness
  • Vented or solid, and the slot pattern
  • Cycle time and insert change interval

Send the drawing, material and current tool problem. We will recommend an insert direction for the operation.
