A liner is thin-walled, so the cut has to be light enough not to distort it. This clip shows a CBN insert machining a high-chrome cast iron liner.
What the clip shows
- Thin-walled liner, low cutting force needed
- CBN insert on an abrasive casting
- Inside or outside surface as machined
Why this insert suits the cut
Thin walls and abrasive material pull in opposite directions: the cut has to be light to avoid distortion, but light cuts in hard material wear the edge faster. The compromise is a sharp, stable CBN edge.
Where this part is used
Liners protect pump and mill casings from abrasive slurry. Once the liner wears through, the casing goes next, so the fit matters.
