Hard Turning an Industrial Shaft Component

0:34 clip · shop-floor footage · Huamin Tools

Long shafts are where hard turning either replaces grinding or does not. This clip shows a CBN insert working a shaft-type component along its length.

What the clip shows

  • Shaft body, continuous cut along the length
  • CBN insert, hardened steel workpiece
  • Steady support visible in the setup

Why this insert suits the cut

On a long shaft, deflection grows with the distance from the support. The insert sees a changing depth of cut, so the grade has to tolerate variation without chipping.

Where this part is used

Shafts of this type appear in pumps, gearboxes and general machinery. Hard turning lets a shop finish after heat treatment without sending the part out for grinding.

What to send with an inquiry

  • Shaft length, diameter and hardness
  • Support arrangement along the length
  • Straightness and surface tolerance

Send the drawing, material and current tool problem. We will recommend an insert direction for the operation.
