Rough Turning a Mill Roll: Second Setup

0:19 clip · shop-floor footage · Huamin Tools

The same roughing operation as the previous clip, run on a second setup. Repeatability between machines is what separates a grade that works once from one that works every shift.

What the clip shows

  • Roughing pass repeated on another setup
  • Comparable stock removal and insert load
  • Wear pattern after the pass

Why this insert suits the cut

A CBN grade that performs on one machine but not another is usually a rigidity or support problem, not a grade problem. Running the same clip twice makes the difference visible.

Where this part is used

Roll shops with more than one lathe need an insert that behaves the same on both. Otherwise the operator compensates by slowing the pass.

What to send with an inquiry

  • Machine models the job runs on
  • Any difference in cycle time between them
  • Insert life on each machine

Send the drawing, material and current tool problem. We will recommend an insert direction for the operation.
