What Are Ceramic Inserts?

Ceramic inserts are high-performance cutting tools made of advanced ceramic materials. What are ceramic inserts used for?

Are ceramic inserts better than CBN inserts?

It depends on the material and machining condition. CBN inserts are often preferred for hardened steel and difficult ferrous materials, while ceramic inserts are widely used for high-speed cast iron machining.

Can ceramic inserts be used for interrupted cutting?

Some ceramic grades can handle light interrupted cutting, but stable continuous cutting is usually preferred. For heavy interrupted hard turning, CBN inserts may be a better option.
